At least they are recognizing that HGST are better quality drives and selling them as their Black series and enterprise series drives.
Just last week I pulled some 4Tb drives from a mix-matched NAS that had failed. They were labeled as WD Red drives, but were clearly HGST as well.

Not exactly. WD bought HGST's hard drive division, so technically they own them and can sell them under their own brand now if they want to.

The WD Reds (WD**EFRX drives) have terrible reliability, according to BackBlaze's 2018-Q2 long-term stats. Not what one would expect from an HGST drive.

I have several EFRX Western Digitals (listed on HDDStockRoom) that are native Western Digital, not Hitachi.
