Because it was the cheapest way to get a 10TB drive from Amazon and I only wanted to have another 10TB available on my clone shelf. I decided to ordered an external 10TB drive with the plan to remove the drive right away.
Ordered: Seagate Backup Plus 10TB for $229.99 CAD
When I removed the drive inside I found a ST10000DM0004 which is listed for $530.99 CAD
Not a bad deal. I'm not a big fan of Seagate drives and don't recommend them for user data. But, for me, this drive will get used very rarely when I need a large drive to clone to or a large volume to store temporary data. And, when the time arises, it will serve as a parts drive.
