HI Luke,

Great post.
I had also successful experience with the following drive:
WD Zephyr - WD5000BMVW-11AMCS2
Platters were not 100% aligned and i got all the data from this drive.

Cheers,
Oded

Confirmed today with a Zephyr as well.
Top platter scratched, removed for inspection, put back and works fine (except the top surface :D )

Had to do a platter swap on a drive run over by a car, but I did not split the patient platters I moved them as one unit. However putting the donor platters back in the donor HDA after recovery, I misaligned them by about 1/16th of an inch on purpose (from my previous sharpie marks). Drive read from all platters without an issue.

Hitachi HDT547564A9E384 - 2 platters/4 heads - All surface reading with intentionally misaligned platters.

Tested today a TOSHIBA MQ01UBD100, moved around the top platter and it works fine.

Toshiba MK5061GSY - 2 Platters - 4 Heads.
Used HDA after a spindle motor failure.
Put platters back in donor and spun top platter 180 degrees.
All heads are reading 100%.

Hi guys,

ST2000LM003 family: M9T (BP) 3 platters, stuck motor (caution: not every motor will be compatible), random platter alignment, heads are reading full speed :)

ST750LM022 2 platters, quite precise platter alignment by marker on the edge, different headsets are reading with errors, speed 4-7kB/s, not recommended :(

Regards,
Dawid
