Yes, so idea is SR runs into problem sector, does it's "magic", then writes back to bad sector LBA. Claim is that what is written back is recovered data. Suspicion is that 1. you can never know for certain it is recovered data and 2. what does it do when it can not recover the sector data -> write back nonsense, silently?CrazyTeeka wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 12:42 pm Drive seems to read fine once good spares have been swapped in. I guess that means firmware issue only manifests with bad sectors?
Searched whole drive for hex values that are not "FF":

Checking that 2 specific sectors read back the same data that was last written to them:

Re: SpinRite
Assuming that you mean the last post about the file hashes, no, files occupy sectors with no known issues.
If you mean where I filled drive with FF, the suspect sectors appear to read ok. I'm going to bring the bad sectors back. I have a way to do this.

Re: SpinRite
Does anyone know where the development of SpinRite is heading? Does anyone have the v6.1 beta versions? Is there a changelog?

Thanks.
I don't understand why he restricts access to his alpha release history:

Re: SpinRite
Oh nice, thanks. I had been wondering where one would best ask such a question.fzabkar wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 6:49 pm I asked a question about charge pumps here:
