MRT - Image by bitmap in DE

Post by lcoughey »

When a hard drive is only partially used and we are imaging, our usual process is to target the used sectors based on the bitmap file, when possible. This way, we can still mirror in a linear fashion without thrashing the heads all over the place. There does not seem to be a way to do this. And, if we select specific files to image, it images file by file, causing the heads to bounce all over the place, rather than make a map of sectors needed and then image based on used sectors.

I also see that there is no indicator of how much data is selected to be imaged, nor an indicator of progress. Rather, we can a scrolling log showing the individual file recovery process.

Hi,
you can image partition data by bitmap as indicated here:

Unfortunately there isn't still a way how to directly image only those specific files we need lineary, heads would bounce all over the place as a normal windows copy and past :(
