Testing for Review - What do you want to see?

Post by lcoughey »

It turns out that MRT tries to write a file when listing destination drive in DE, which triggers Trend Micro's behavior monitoring to block MRT and the subsequent list of destination drives does not populate. So, now that I have a working system, I plan to put it through its paces to see how it stacks up in the real world.

If you have any questions about the functionality of this system that I can test, list them in this forum thread. I cannot guarantee that I will get to them all, but will do my best.

My main objective with the review is to answer the questions that most data recovery professionals have:
  • Can MRT do enough to compete with other professional data recovery tools?
  • Is MRT destined to be another disappointment with great sales, little support and virtually no updates as we have seen in the past from other Chinese vendors?
  • Basically, is it worth the money?

A couple of things MRT has boasted about that might be worth testing.

1) Seagate F3: edit ROM and disable head 0 and boot hard disk from head 1, then edit RAM and enable head 0 dynamically.

2) Seagate DM001, DM003, as well as triangle-board HDDs: Unlock firmware

Even if you don't get to these items it will be interesting to hear what you think about MRT.

According to MRT the company started out for Maxtor repair. So it stands for "Maxtor Repair Tool".
