Yikes! How does that happen? Has the ROM been unsoldered/resoldered?

Not sure how it happened. ROM was not previously removed and the user is your vintage, without any tech knowledge. I'm wondering if they somehow tried to flash the ROM via the DLink NAS (no idea how they would do that) without success. No matter the cause, it is absolutely empty, unless you are a half-full kind of guy in which case it is absolutely full with 0xFFFF.

Solution: Disabled media cache, cleared g-list & donor heads

Symptom: Drive not mounting (after client pushed to recover about 15% of the data)
Cause: Head 1 failing, causing the drive to go stupid
Solution: Modified firmware to stabilize the other heads. Change heads to get clean read of head 1.

Symptom: Drive gets stuck at BSY, detects in BIOS, but not accessible in any OS
Cause: head 2 failing, firmware issues, media damage
Solution: disabled media cache, tweaked settings to get fairly clean and slow read of head 2

Solution: modify module 93 and change heads
